Blaze destroys car in Chollas View, 1 detained

SAN DIEGO - Police have detained a man in connection with a blaze that destroyed a car in Chollas View early Monday morning.

The fire broke out before 1 a.m. in the 800 block of 45th Street, San Diego police report.

Officers discovered a few trees and a Honda Accord on fire. According to police, the owner of the car came outside and tried to hose it down, but was stopped from approaching the scene by officers and had to watch his car burn.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews arrived and doused the blaze. A Metro Arson Strike Team was brought in to investigate.

Meanwhile, neighbors told 10News a man with a restraining order against him had come to their house to see his baby Sunday night. They said he tried to set one of their cars on fire with a torch. Police arrived, detained him, and then let him go, the neighbors said. Hours later, the car fire broke out a few blocks away.

At about 4:30 a.m., San Diego police reported that a person was in custody for questioning in connection with the car fire. Police would not immediately confirm the earlier incident involving the alleged domestic violence call by neighbors.
