SAN DIEGO - A bicyclist was struck by a San Diego police car in central San Diego on Wednesday.

The man made a turn directly in front of the squad car while riding in the 4600 block of Home Avenue shortly before 6 p.m., SDPD Officer David Stafford said.

"It was just like a shadow moving across the street," said witness Joe Stewart. "I was watching in disbelief."

Police say the bicyclist hit the police car's windshield and was run over.

"He was underneath the vehicle," said Stewart. "I could see him. I could hear him up under there moaning in pain."

Medics took the bicyclist to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest for treatment of a compound leg fracture. No other injuries were reported, Stafford said.
