Charles Raymond Gilbreth was pronounced dead in the 4500 block of Montezuma Road at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pedaling eastbound on Montezuma Road, near Collwood Boulevard, when the Chrysler SUV hit him from behind about 20 minutes earlier, according to San Diego police.

The driver of the SUV used his cell phone to report the accident and waited at the scene to speak with investigating officers. Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, said Lt. Andra Brown, a San Diego police spokeswoman.
