SAN DIEGO - A man suspected of robbing an Egger Highlands bank Monday afternoon was taken into custody in an Imperial Beach neighborhood.

According to San Diego police, a man entered the Navy Federal Credit Union branch on 555 Saturn Boulevard at about 4:30 p.m. and told employees he had a gun and a bomb strapped to his body. The man left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Witnesses told police they did not notice the man carrying any weapons.

With the help of a tracking device, police tracked the man to an area in Imperial Beach near Grove Avenue and California Street, and a perimeter was established as officers searched for the suspected robber.

Authorities surrounded a home where the suspected robber was hiding and took him into custody shortly after 5:15 p.m.

There were two other people inside the home, police said. It was unclear if they were related to the man or his friends or acquaintances. Police are not releasing the man's name but said he is in his 20s.
