Man sought in string of vehicle thefts, robberies in East County

SAN DIEGO - Authorities are searching Tuesday for a man accused in a string of vehicle thefts, robberies and home invasions in the East County.

San Diego County sheriff's officials said the first incident was reported at a strip mall in the 9500 block of Jamacha Boulevard in Spring Valley at about 12 p.m.

Dylan Kajy told 10News he was working inside a smoke shop when the suspect entered the store.

"He came up on [a] skateboard two times to my shop; first time, [he] tried to sell me Beats headphones. [The] second time, [he] said, 'Give me the keys to your car.' He had a revolver and held me at gunpoint, and I gave him the keys and he left," Kajy said.

The suspect is also accused of robbing a travel agency in the same strip mall.

Deputies found Kajy's Suburban SUV a short time later about a mile away, in front of a gated condo complex in the 2700 block of Lake Pointe Drive.

Sheriff's officials said it was at the condo complex where the suspect entered a home with an open door and stole a car. The suspect later abandoned that vehicle near a Staples store in Rancho San Diego.

According to sheriff's officials, the suspect entered a Hallmark store, stole a car key and drove away to the 1600 block of Sundale Road in the El Cajon area.

In that instance, the victim told police the armed man entered his home and demanded the car keys. The gunman then took off in the victim's Toyota Tundra.

The victim's son said, "My dad was sitting at lunch, an intruder entered our house, demanded his car keys and he came in with a gun; my dad was of course shaken by this."

The Tundra was found abandoned two miles from the victim's home.

Sheriff's officials said all stolen vehicles were recovered.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, bald, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with tattoos all over his chest, arms and back.
