Authorities identify burned Alpine body as Kimberly Hayes

ALPINE, Calif. - Authorities Thursday identified the woman who was left burning on an Alpine road and ruled the case as a homicide.

The body of 35-year-old Lakeside resident Kimberly Renee Hayes was found on fire around 4:55 a.m. Sunday on Sequan Truck Trail near Japatul Road. Deputies arrived to find Hayes still smoldering in the roadway, sheriff's homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.

Giannantonio declined to disclose if an autopsy pinpointed the cause of death or if the ruling resulted solely from the circumstances of the fatality.

No arrests in the case have been announced.

Giannantonio asked anyone with information about the incident to call the Homicide Detail 858-974-2321 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 888- 580-8477.

Homicide detectives are also investigating a second body, which was found at the Ma Tar Awa Viejas Camper park in Alpine, located at 25 Browns Rd., at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday. It is unclear if it is connected to Hayes.
