MONTICELLO, Ind. - A judge in northern Indiana has approved a psychological examination for a man charged in the fatal stabbings of his mother and half-sister after an attorney said the man repeatedly smeared himself with feces and drank his own urine in jail.

A White Superior Court judge on Thursday granted a request by the court-appointed attorney representing David Rodenbarger, 20.

Rodenbarger will undergo the exam at the Marion County Jail, where he's now being held.

Rodenbarger was charged earlier this month with two counts of murder in the deaths of Michelle J. "Shelly" Haskins, 41, and Jillian E. "Jilly" Haskins, 6.

They were stabbed to death with a two-pronged meat fork and knife at the family's Monticello home.

Attorney Pat Manahan, told the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/Yqc1dE ) that Rodenbarger may have serious mental health problems.

Police were called to the family's home on Feb. 2 after Michelle Haskins called 911, saying she and the girl had been stabbed. Authorities aren't sure what prompted the killings.
