A would-be robber ran off empty-handed from a North Clairemont-area bar on Saturday, San Diego police reported.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at The Watering Hole bar in the 4700 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.

Police said the boyfriend of a female employee walked through the back door of the restaurant to drop something off.

A man armed with a handgun followed the boyfriend inside the business and pointed the gun at the employee and her boyfriend, according to police.

The employee and her boyfriend then ran out of the business. The gunman also ran away, police said.

There was no loss, according to police. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned black man who was in his early 20s with a thin build. He was wearing a white bandana over his face, a black shirt and dark jeans.
