SAN DIEGO - Police are searching for a man who they say may have attempted to kidnap a woman in Hillcrest Friday.

The incident was reported at 4:30 a.m. after witnesses said they noticed the woman running up and down University Avenue near Centre Street.

The woman told officers, it wasn't the first time the man tried to kidnap her. Police said the man pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the woman and tried to drag her into his car. The woman said a similar incident happened a few months ago.

Police said the man is heavy set with black hair. He was last seen in a champagne-colored Jeep Cherokee with a Puerto Rican flag on the rearview mirror.
