Motorcyclist dies in crash on NB I-15 near SR-76

SAN DIEGO - A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 15 in the North County.

The fatal incident occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near state Route 76 in Fallbrook, according to the California Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist was splitting traffic between the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes when an unidentified cream-colored sedan changing from the No. 1 lane into the No. 2 lane struck him, the CHP said. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected onto the road, where he was struck by a moving truck.

The 28-year-old motorcyclist, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene.

The sedan fled the scene, the CHP said. Officials say the vehicle should have collision damage on the passenger's side door or near the front of the vehicle, with possible blue paint transfer. The sedan's driver was described as a white male, possibly in his 30s, and the passenger was described as a man with blonde hair and a red goatee.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who has information about the sedan's driver is asked to contact the CHP in Oceanside at 760-757-1675 or the CHP Communications Center at 858-637-3800.

The incident remains under investigation.
