Alpine home destroyed in overnight fire; no one was inside at time of the blaze

Fire on 800 block of Homeward Way

ALPINE, Calif. - A home in a remote area of Alpine was destroyed in an overnight fire Monday.

Heartland Fire & Rescue dispatchers said the blaze was reported at 1:56 a.m. at a home on the 800 block of Homeward Way.

Crews said the one story home was gutted by the fire.

No one was inside at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters had to use 1,100 feet of hose to get to the house because it was a distance from the nearest fire hydrant, but were able to put it out by 3 a.m.

The San Diego County chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the homeowner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
