ALERT: Unrest forces Cajon Valley Union to dismiss schools early Friday

District concerned with student, staff safety

EL CAJON, Calif. -- As protests ramp up in the aftermath of a shooting of an unarmed black man by El Cajon police Tuesday, the Cajon Valley Union School District announced that it will be closing schools early on Friday for safety reasons. 

The Cajon Valley Union School District sent out this notice for parents and staff Thursday: 

"This is Superintendent, David Miyashiro. As a safety precaution and in order to allow ample time for all of our students to be picked up from school safely...Tomorrow, Friday, September 30th we will be on 'Last Day of School Schedule.' This will mean that middle school dismissal time will be 12:15 (p.m.) an all elementary schools will dismiss one hour early. Your school principal will be sending a message home shortly following this call with the specific time and details around dismissal. Dismissal times can also be found on the home page of our website...We apologize for the last minute change. The safety of our students and staff are our first priority. Thank you and good evening."

Once again, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH schools in the Cajon Valley Union School District will be on, "last day of school" schedule and the district office closes at 3 p.m.
