EL CAJON, Calif. - Investigators are looking for the person who planted several bottle bombs around an El Cajon apartment complex Tuesday night.
Firefighters found the remnants of several acid or dry ice bombs around Sam's Hill Sunset View Apartments in the 1500 block of Sams Hill Road just after 7 p.m.
Jerry Hollis was about to go to dinner with his family when he heard a loud bang. He told 10News, "It was a bunch of kids that live in that one apartment and they were all running away from it."
Other neighbors heard three loud bangs in a matter of minutes.
A San Diego County Sheriff's Department's Bomb/Arson unit detective said he is not sure what was in the water bottles but said whatever it was, it scorched the grass where they exploded.
Deputy Dan Wilson said, "These things are very dangerous. Sometimes they contain caustic chemicals that have been known to take off hands and injure people."
One of the plastic bottles had a child's action figure attached to it with what seems to some sort of woman's accessory.
Jean Scott is the apartment complex manager. He told 10News, "Evidently, they had a second one which they rolled off the roof over here which fell on our laundry room. There's no damage … it just scared a lot of the residents."
No injuries were reported.
As of late Tuesday night, investigators had not identified anyone responsible for setting off the bottle bombs.
