SAN DIEGO – You could win $1,000 simply by finding a penny.

On Tuesday, 10 “lucky pennies” were hidden across San Diego. The finder of each penny will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

San Diego is one of ten cities financial services company Ally Financial chose to hide these valuable pennies. Ally says the initiative is designed to encourage Americans to save.

“We hope that people will have fun searching for Ally Lucky Pennies in their cities and that the campaign will inspire people to look at money in a different way,” said Andrea Riley, chief marketing officer for Ally.

Treasure hunters can find HINTS here. One reads:

“This San Diego landmark was built on moving pictures, but not words.”

The Ally pennies are slightly larger than regular pennies. They have an Ally logo on the front and the number "100,000" on the back.
