Alleged Suspects Taken Into Custody

A parolee and an alleged accomplice were in custody Thursday on suspicion of robbing an East County jewelry store, authorities said.

Alex Yalda, 21, and 20-year-old Martin Bako were arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail Wednesday night, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The arrests stemmed from an armed robbery at Qatan Jewelry Collections at 1530 Jamacha Road in El Cajon late Wednesday morning, sheriff's Sgt. Sheila Porter said.

A man with a gun allegedly held up the business, taking several jewelry items before driving off in a vehicle with another man, Porter said.

A short while later, a deputy spotted the suspect vehicle and watched it until he saw two men matching the description of the suspects enter it, Porter said.

The deputy pulled the driver over and detained the men, who were later identified by witnesses, the sergeant said. He said they were booked on suspicion of burglary and robbery.

Yalda was a parolee, according to Porter.
