A 52-year-old man was under arrest Tuesday in connection with the theft of bronze vases and grave markers from several area cemeteries, police said.

Jack David Prell was taken into custody Monday at his home, according to Monica Munoz of the San Diego Police Department.

It was unclear what led authorities to Prell.

Prell was being held at the San Diego County Jail in lieu of $940,000 bail on suspicion of grand theft, receiving stolen property and destruction and removal of cemetery property.

"The investigation is still ongoing," Munoz said. "There may be more charges."

Two other people were interviewed, but not arrested, Munoz said.

San Diego police, acting on a tip, yesterday recovered some bronze vases and grave markers at Pacific Coast Recycling in the 3000 block of Commercial Street.

Several cemeteries in San Diego County have been reporting thefts of bronze vases and grave markers.

Thieves are turning over the bronze items to scrap metal recyclers for cash.
