Randy 'Duke' Cunningham's Wife Speaks Out

Nancy Tells Her Side Of Story

POSTED: 8:52 am PDT August 18, 2006
UPDATED: 9:04 am PDT August 18, 2006

Nancy Cunningham, the wife of disgraced former U.S. Rep. Randy Cunningham, is speaking publicly for the first time. She is telling her side of the story.

Nancy wants to sever all ties with her husband of 32 years. She said she wants to distance herself from her husband as she takes on the federal government.

In an interview, Mrs. Cunningham details the abrupt change in her life after her husband admitted to taking more than $2 million in bribes from defense contractors.

She is now living with her grandmother in a three-bedroom home.

Nancy said she found a duffel bag with laundry and $32,000 inside left by her husband the night before he went to prison.

She also talked about how Randy still suffered from the horrible memories from his time served in the Vietnam War. She said he slept with a gun in his hand.

The interview comes as Nancy is suing the federal government for her share of the proceeds from the sale of the family's Rancho Sante Fe home.

Trying to distance herself from her husband, Nancy now refers to him as "Mr. Cunningham."

Nancy's lengthy interview is published in the "New Repubic" with nationally known author Kitty Kelley.
