Man Allegedly Assaults Girl He Met On MySpace

Luis Alvarado Allegedly Traveled To Oceanside To Assault Girl

A 19-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious conduct with a 13-year-old San Diego County girl he got to know on the popular MySpace.Com Web site.

Oceanside police arrested Hollywood High student Luis Alvarado at the school Thursday morning and took him to Vista for booking, said Oceanside police Sgt. Leonard Mata said.

Alvarado faces charges of "committing a lewd and lascivious act by forcible entry with a child under 14" and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to the sheriff's department's Web site.

After communicating with the girl several times online, Alvarado allegedly traveled to Oceanside and assaulted her on March 12.

Detectives armed with warrants searched the suspect's Hollywood home and his vehicle, seizing a computer and "miscellaneous items" as evidence, Mata said.

MySpace.com, a free online social networking hub that has tens of millions of users, has been involved in numerous criminal investigations nationwide.

"Nintey-two percent of parents say they have rules about the Internet," said I-Safe.com Jonathan King.

Most recently, a college student in Connecticut was reportedly arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual assault for allegedly molesting two 12-year-old girls after using the Web site to arrange a meeting with one of them.

A 15-year-old student in Costa Mesa last month was suspended for allegedly posting a message on MySpace.com suggesting that a classmate be shot in the head.
