SAN DIEGO - An 83-year-old woman who was struck by a car in Chollas Creek as her 8-year-old grandson looked on has died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the accident, police said Friday.
The woman was struck around 8 p.m. Thursday when she stepped in front of a moving vehicle alongside one that had stopped for her in the 5200 block of University Avenue in the Chollas Creek neighborhood, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.
She suffered serious head trauma and several broken bones, Stafford said, adding that the woman's 8-year-old grandson, who was walking with her, was not hurt.
The woman later died from her injuries, said SDPD Officer Frank Cali.
The vehicle that struck the woman stopped at the scene, and no charges are likely, according to Stafford.
