CASTAIC - An 8-year-old boy was hospitalized after his father found him unconscious in a water-filled washing machine at their Castaic home, authorities said.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Victims Bureau were investigating the injury, which happened around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in the 3500 block of Pansy Court, said Sgt. Brian Hudson of the sheriff's Santa Clarita Station.
"The victim's father pulled the boy from the (top-loading) washing machine, which was filled with water," Hudson said. "The boy's mother had gone to the store, while his father tended to yard work."
County firefighters and personnel from the Santa Clarita station responded to the father's 911 call and found the boy lying in front of the washing machine unconscious and not breathing, he said.
"The child was resuscitated and brought to a local hospital. He is currently listed in stable condition with his parents by his side," Hudson said.
The washing machine agitator failed to stop when the door was opened, Hudson said.
