8 hours later, Mid-City standoff ends with arrest

SAN DIEGO - A man was finally taken into custody after a standoff at a Mid-City apartment complex that lasted more than eight hours overnight Thursday.

The standoff began at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday when a man called 911 claiming that someone was threatening his life at an apartment in the 3800 block of Estrella Avenue.

According to a San Diego police watch commander, when officers responded, the man would have made the 911 call would not let them into the apartment. Officers believed the man was alone inside and armed with a knife.

Sometime after 5 a.m. Friday, he surrendered and was taken into custody, police said.

No details were confirmed. There were no reported injuries.
