Councilmember: Pull Plug On Red Light Cameras

Three Local Intersections May Be Inaccurate

A San Diego City Council member wants to pull the plug on red light cameras until an investigation is complete.

10News broke the story two days ago.

While gathering information for a trial, police officers discovered that the underground sensor loops at three intersections had been moved by the private company that operates the cameras -- Lockheed Martin.

The following locations are in question:

  • 16th Street. & F Street
  • Mira Mesa Boulevard & Black Mountain Road
  • Ingraham Steet & Grand Avenue

Councilmember Jim Madaffer wants a third party to investigate all red light cameras at San Diego intersections, 10News reports.

He says that the timing of yellow lights at intersections with cameras appears to be different than intersections without cameras.

Madaffer says that traffic safety should be the number one priority.

The San Diego Chief of Police has already ordered an independent audit of all red light cameras.
