San Diego To Audit Red Light Photo Cameras

Preliminary Report Shows Settings Off At Three Intersections

San Diego Police Chief David Bejarano Wednesday called for an audit of all 19 red light photo enforcement cameras in San Diego. Traffic Light Camera While gathering information for a trial, police officers discovered that the underground sensor loops at three intersections had been moved by the private company that operates the cameras -- Lockheed Martin. The following locations are in question:
  • 16th Street. & F Street
  • Mira Mesa Boulevard & Black Mountain Road
  • Ingraham Steet & Grand Avenue
The move means that many red light citations must be dismissed. The audit will be done by an independent agency to determine if all of the cameras are operating properly. In addition to the independent audit, the police department said that their traffic investigators have begun their own check of all 19 cameras and their underground loops to determine whether any of the remaining intersections have been altered or are inaccurate. Note: 10News had also identified a fourth intesection -- College Avenue and Montezuma Blvd. -- Tuesday night. However, their sources say that while the intersection did have its sensors moved, police believe Lockheed Martin's claims that they weren't moved enough to make a difference.
