Suspected Wife Killer Pleads Not Guilty

Police Have Yet To Find Man's Wife

Almost five years ago, 29-year-old Guadalupe "Lupe" Dailey disappeared from the Viejas Indian Reservation, never to be seen again. James Dailey Video Dailey's Tuesday Arraignment Her accused killer, 35-year-old James Dailey (pictured, left), pleaded innocent Tuesday in court. He did not speak in court, allowing his attorney to enter the not guilty plea. James Dailey was arrested two months ago in Muncie, Ind., in connection with Lupe Dailey's disappearance. Guadalupe DaileyPolice say Lupe Dailey (pictured, right) disappeared shortly after the two had an argument on a late-August night in 1997. James Dailey told police that he had decided to "cool off" from the argument by motoring his boat around Mission Bay. When investigators checked the boat, they found that it had not been used in quite some time, but they did find Lupe Dailey's checkbook. James Dailey had been a security guard at Viejas casino and, according to co-workers, had made frequent references to killing his wife, including suggesting tossing a radio into the bathtub. James Dailey has admitted to police that he and his wife would get in frequent arguments but that he had left the argument that August night alone, just wanting to be by himself. James Dailey moved to Indiana three years ago. Prosecutors say that while he was in Indiana, another woman filed for a restraining order against him. If convicted of Guadalupe Dailey's murder, James Dailey faces 15 years to life in prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7. Previous Stories:
