Husband Of Slain Wife Faces Murder Charges
Suspect Extradited From Indiana
A former Santee man accused of killing his estranged wife was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in San Diego Superior Court.
James Dailey, (pictured, left), 35, was arrested in late February in Muncie, Ind., where he moved three years ago, and was extradited to San Diego last weekend to face a charge of murder in the alleged Aug. 31, 1997, slaying of 29-year-old Guadalupe "Lupe" Dailey (pictured, below).
The woman, whose body has never been found, was the director of a Santee day care center and was in the process of divorcing James Dailey. The couple had two small children.
Dailey was charged with murder, though prosecutors have no physical evidence linking him to his wife's killing, deputy district attorney Dan Goldstein said.
Sheriff's Detective Sharon Lunsford said that in court documents that Dailey talked to co-workers "about 'snipering off his wife' and throwing a plugged-in radio into his wife's bath."
Dailey told detectives that, on the night his wife disappeared, he took his boat out to "cool off." But investigators said that the boat had no spark plugs and had not been used in a long time.
