70,000 attend 3-day Supergirl Pro competition in Oceanside

Professionals inspire younger surfers

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Twelve of the best surfers from all over the world showcased their skills during the finals of the Supergirl Pro competition in Oceanside on Sunday.

Professionals like Malia Manuel, Jacqueline Silva and Tatiana Weston Webb made it into the finals.

Brisa Hennessy, 14, is the youngest competitor.

"It's a dream surfing against these pro surfers and I've always looked up to them, so it's really cool to surf against them," she told 10News.

The three-day event easily draws more than 70,000 people. There were many people standing on the pier taking photos, while the rest were on the beach. Many were little girls who want to be professional surfers.

Sienna Gonzales is an aspiring professional surfer and has her first big competition next week

"Just watching here, trying to learn a little something," she said.

There are others like Allison Raus who surf for fun. She says she is inspired that women are representing in this sport.

"Knowing that the women have the power to do that is awesome," Raus said.
