Gay Pride Parade Suffers More Fallout

Pride Board Is Asked To Resign

There's more fallout surrounding last week's Gay Pride Parade and Festival.

The Gay And Lesbian Times is once again calling for the resignation of the pride board after it allowed at least one registered sex offender to participate in the events, 10News reported.

When word of this first hit last week, community, government and law enforcement members threatened to pull their support. After some consideration, the two volunteers -- convicted pedophiles -- resigned voluntarily and supporters turned out as planned. But now, some are accusing the pride board of misleading the public.

Editors of the Gay And Lesbian Times say San Diego's gay pride board must resign.

"We felt that we weren't given the entire information and they tried their best to not let that information get out," Rachel Ralston, with the Gay And Lesbian Times, said.

Ralston says the pride board misled the public when it announced two volunteers, registered child sex offenders, would not be working at last weekend's gay pride festival because at least one did.

"At the festival, one of our staff members spotted one of the guys that supposedly had resigned," Ralston said.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and other law enforcement officials considered pulling support last week, but didn't in the end because the volunteers promised to resign.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the pride board said "at this time, the pride board has no intention of resigning en masse. We are in the process of seeking necessary counsel to advise and to reconcile this unfortunate incident."

There will be a community-wide meeting on the matter later this month.
