UCSD Nurses Protest Instead Of Strike

Nurses Haven't Had Contracts Since April

UPDATED: 4:41 pm PDT July 21, 2005

Nurses at the UCSD Medical Center staged a protest rather than a one-day strike at the hospital Thursday.

Nurses at all 10 University of California Hospitals and Health Centers had planned a one-day strike, but a judge Wednesday issued a temporary restraining order to block it.

Union nurses have been working without a contract since April, and negotiations on a new contract are stalled.

The nurses' blocked walkout follows several months of unrest between the UC system and its unions.
