A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at La Jolla shores for the grand opening of a new public restroom.

It's one of the busiest beaches in San Diego, with more than 800,000 visitors each year, 10News reported.

The new restroom is the culmination of years of work from within the La Jolla community.

"It's good news that we're actually getting some infrastructure built even in these tough budget times, and it's great for the beach and for the community," council member Scott Peters said.

The project cost $593,000.

It was funded by the transient occupancy tax, coastal infrastructure funds, park development impact fees and private donations.
