SAN DIEGO -- Fiesta Island is known as a place to bring dogs so they can get wet and roam free.
"They roam over the sand dunes. They usually come back after five minutes and they didn't come back," Celeste Mann said.Mann had two dogs. Spirit, a golden dingo mix, and Angel, a tri-color cattle dog. Both dogs vanished without a trace last month."We've spent weeks, 10 hour days, combing the whole island looking for them," Mann said. "I never saw them alive again."A week ago Monday, Mann got a phone call. Angel had been found dead and buried in a cruel manner."My dog was buried vertically with just her head sticking out right near the path," Mann said. No one knows who did this to Angel and Spirit is still missing. Mann said she has lost faith. "I loved them. They were wonderful, great dogs. I had so many beautiful years with them -- I wish they could've grown old with me," Mann said.Mann said she believes someone is out there deliberately doing this to dogs."None of the dog owners feel safe to bring their dogs (to Fiesta Island) anymore," said Mann. The Department of Animal Control told 10News they have no other reports of missing dogs. However, there are many fliers posted at Fiesta Island from people who are looking for their missing pets.
