SAN DIEGO -- Drivers hoping to pick up their car from a local repair shop may be out of luck, 10News reported. An auto body chain shut down Friday, leaving employees and customers waiting and wondering what to do.
Laura Luce thought the task of picking up her car would be a simple one."I just wanted to pick up my car," Luce said.On Wednesday morning, Luce went to the M2 Collision Care Center to pick up her Camry. However, she was told she couldn't have it, 10News reported."So what do I do about a car? I need my car," Luce said.Luce isn't alone. After the company shut its doors, including four shops in the county, about 150 drivers were left without cars.According to 10News, M2 Collision was in the midst of being bought and the deal soured. Investors, including General Electric, decided to liquidate the assets. The Bank and Creditors Association handling the case said they don't have the manpower to sort out which repairs are done or which parts are where. They plan to auction off the shops later this week, and have the new owners sort it out.The disappointment is shared by now-former employees, who are suddenly without jobs. And, because of the sudden freeze of assets, paychecks didn't go through."I feel like I've been robbed -- that's the way I feel," said Alex Caro, a former employee.AAA told 10News that they've been able to get six of their members vehicles out, and supplied rental cars for the rest. Experts said that the rest of the customers should contact their car insurer immediately. For more information about automotive repair regulation, visit www.autorepair.ca.gov/StdHome.asp.
