SAN DIEGO -- Dozens of people who live in Carlsbad continue to be displaced from their homes due to a landslide.
The land has been shifting for some time now, causing a water main underneath the Marbella condo complex to pull apart, 10News reported.
Friday morning, the City of Carlsbad shut off the water forcing the evacuation of 26 units. An engineering crew hired by the condominium association has been keeping a close eye on the situation. The slide also caused a large crack in the driveway of the complex, but engineers said there is no reason for residents to panic."We're out here investigating the potential for a slope failure. It's usually a very slow process. If there's a lot of water that's suddenly introduced into the slide plane, then you could have large-scale movement, but generally we don't see that," said Tom March with American Geotechnical Inc.Next week, engineers will be setting up monitoring equipment and creating a repair plan. The city is working to restore water and power to 18 of the evacuated units but, the remaining eight units could be physically damaged if the slide continues.La Costa Avenue may also be shut down.
