SAN DIEGO -- Enjoying recreational activities in the nude is a lifestyle thousands of Americans choose to live.
It's legal, and those who practice say nudists are wholesome, family-oriented people.
Brian Spence, president of Naturally California, said, "Nude recreation is a lot of fun. We have friendships that are long-lasting, marriages that last forever. We have children that grow up to be very strong leaders in their community."Spence runs a 100-member nudist club in San Diego that offers fun events like pizza night, whale watching, and until recently, roller skating. In fact, roller rinks in several cities felt pressure from elected officials to cancel private nudist events.Santee Mayor Randy Voepel is among those who have concerns."Having this is inappropriate at best and when I found out it was nude adults with nude children, I have a duty to at least worry about it."Spence said those concerns are unfounded, emphasizing his club members are law-abiding citizens who are often second or third generation nudists."The parents are with the children and are more attentive with their children present at a nudist resort than they would be here in Balboa Park," Spence said.He pointed out that Naturally California, along with other nudist groups, value the freedom of being clothes-free, when it's appropriate and not infringing on those who don't want to bare all.For more information, visit www.naturallyca.com.
