Investigation Into Child's Death Continues

UPDATED: 9:59 pm PST February 6, 2005

An 18-month-old boy struck by a U.S. Postal Service truck in Oceanside died at the scene, authorities said Saturday.

The victim was identified as Joshua Darnell Young-Jones, medical examiner Investigator Sal Rodriguez said.

The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Friday on Garfield Street, Oceanside police Sgt. Leonard Mata said.

The boy got in front of the truck while the vehicle was stopped as the carrier delivered mail, 10News reported.

Unaware that the child was there, the carrier started up the truck, took it out of park and started to move, Mata said.

No one was arrested, but the investigation is continuing.
