Authorities continue to search for the driver of a white compact who raced up behind a 1923 model T-Bucket Ford convertible, causing it to careen off an embankment and kill its driver.

The accident on state Route 94 near Bancroft Road occurred about 3:50 p.m. Thursday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The fatally injured driver of the antique Ford was Paul Edwin Boitel, 58, of Spring Valley, 10News reported.

Boitel was headed east at 50-60 mph the when the driver of the small white car, weaving through traffic, swooped behind Boitel at 80-90 mph, according to CHP Officer Brian Pennings.

Boitel swerved the Ford to the right, and the vehicle went off an embankment and overturned, ejecting the driver, who suffered fatal head injuries, Pennings said.

The driver of the compact did not stop, authorities said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the white compact or its driver was urged to call the CHP's El Cajon office at (619) 401-2000.
