SAN DIEGO -- Most passenger and freight trains will run on schedule Monday after service was interrupted following the derailment of six freight cars in the Miramar area, North County Transit District officials said.
Some delays may still occur this week as crews complete repairs on train switching equipment near the derailment site at Camino Santa De and Frostmar Place, transit officials said. The cause of the derailment remained under investigation. Six of 34 cars on a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train tumbled from a stretch of tracks around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, NCTD officials said. To make up for the temporary loss of some San Diego rail service, transit authorities offered bus runs from the Sorrento Valley station to Old Town and Santa Fe Depot during the weekend. Freight trains between San Diego and northern destinations resumed operations Sunday, transit officials said. The Coaster resumed a normal schedule Monday, with the first train from Oceanside to San Diego departing at 5:23 a.m. Amtrak will continue busing passengers between San Diego and Solana Beach until repairs are completed, NCTD officials said.
