A family of four escaped unharmed after running a rented sail boat up onto the rocks in the main channel of Mission Bay, near the West Mission Bay Drive bridge.

The mishap took place about 2:40 p.m. Sunday, San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum said.Lifeguards removed the family from the boat and determined that it will have to be towed off of the rocks, Lerum said.No other boats were involved in the crash, he said.Lifeguards were waiting to hear back from the rental company to assess the damage and remove the sailboat.Copyright
