Lifeguards said the boat flipped over after the driver turned too quickly. They say the boat was weighed down by equipment.

The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. when a wave hit the boat, roughly 100 yards from shore just north of Marine Street, San Diego lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma said.

Lifeguards rescued the boaters and brought them to lifeguard headquarters in Mission Bay's Quivira Basin.

Medics treated two of the men at the scene and took a third to UCSD Medical Center to be checked out.
