Detectives Sunday sought a suspect in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy who got away from the suspect and hid in a canyon in Tierrasanta, 10News reported.

The boy was pushing his bicycle up a hill on Tierrasanta Boulevard just after 4 p.m. Friday when a man in his 20s pulled up in a newer-model red pickup and told the boy he would get a free go-cart if he got into the truck, SDPD Sgt. Rich Nemetz said.

When the boy refused, the suspect got out of his truck, grabbed the boy and tried to put him into the truck but the boy kicked and broke away, Nemetz said.

The boy hid in a canyon and the suspect fled, police said.

The man wore a black baseball cap, sunglasses, a black shirt and black pants.

He reportedly drove a red Toyota pickup with a rear bumper license plate frame depicting a skull and crossbones on it, police said.
