BONITA, Calif. -- Authorities Friday identified a 45-year-old mechanic killed in an industrial vehicle accident at an East County freeway-expansion job site.
Bruce Kevin Peetz of Spring Valley and another mechanic were working on a bulldozer when the engine was accidentally started, San Diego County medical examiner's and sheriff's officials said. The bulldozer rolled forward and pinned Peetz between a wheel well and a tire about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, sheriff's Lt. Hope Andrews said. Peetz died at the accident scene. The death occurred as crews worked on a state Route 125 extension near San Miguel Road and Sweetwater Reservoir in the Bonita area, Andrews said. Peetz was an employee of Otay River Constructors, the company hired by tollway developer California Transportation Ventures to build a road linking the 125 with a planned toll road, company spokesman Steve Richards said.
