SAN DIEGO -- The Grossmont Union School Board held a meeting Thursday evening to allow parents to speak their minds about two teachers who allegedly showed students the beheading video of American Nick Berg.
The two teachers -- Michael Smith, (pictured, far right), a social studies teacher from Grossmont High School in El Cajon, and Gina Grossini, (pictured, right), an art teacher from El Capitan High School in Lakeside -- were removed from their classrooms pending an investigation of the allegations. At Grossmont, some students wore teachers shirts that said, "Free Mr. Smith." They said the goverment teacher showed pictures of the beheading but was just trying to inform students on what's going on in the war.At El Capitan, students said Grossini allowed them to watch it after a student downloaded it from the Internet. The teacher allegedly commented, "this is why we don't go to war."The school board is not expected to take action at the meeting. Superintendent Terry Ryan said if the incidents did occur, they are "unacceptable." He is expected to make some comments during the meeting.
