Gas Prices Across County Continue To Rise

Double-Digit Increases Reported At Some County Pumps

Gas prices across the county are continuing to rise.

The average price for a gallon of regular in San Diego is $4.18 and rising fast.

In Otay Mesa – where gas is the cheapest in the county at $3.99 for a gallon of regular unleaded – people 10News spoke with say they are still willing to pay more to pump there than over the border, where a gallon of gas will cost less than $3.00.

"The quality is better," said Victor Garcia. "My opinion... it's a little better. It doesn't dissolve as quickly as Mexican gas does."

The Shell station next to Interstate 5 across from Lindbergh Field has the highest priced gallon of regular unleaded gas in the county at $4.59.

When asked why they would pay the more for a gallon of gas when they could pay at least 30 cents less a mile from the freeway, most said it was simply more convenient.

"I had to go in and meet someone at the airport… that's the reason," said another driver.

In the North County the price for a gallon of gas appears to be climbing closer to the highest faster. Double-digit increases are now becoming a daily occurrence at some San Diego pumps.

At Express Fuel in Oceanside, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded jumped 20 cents overnight from $3.99 to $4.19. At a Mobil gas station in Scripps Ranch, the price a gallon of regular unleaded jumped 10 cents in two hours on Wednesday

"I remember seeing the price and I just came now because I got off work and it's already up, so it kind of sucks," said driver Jessica Krantz.
