Girl Fights Off Accused Walmart Kidnapper

Police: Man Let Go Of Screaming, Squirming 7-Year-Old

A 7-year-old Georgia girl kicked and screamed her way out of an attempted kidnapping at an Atlanta-area Walmart, police said.

Brittney Baxter was alone in the toy aisle of the Bremen, Ga., Walmart on Wednesday as her mother shopped for groceries, the family told “Good Morning America.”

She told police a man began talking to her while she was looking at toys.

"I just said, 'I'm going to see what my momma is doing,' and he just grabbed me and picked me up," Brittney told Atlanta TV station WSB.

The man, identified by police as 25-year-old Thomas Woods, put his hand over her mouth, but Brittney kicked, squirmed and made as much noise as possible before he let her go and ran off.

Surveillance cameras outside the store captured Woods getting into his car, and he was arrested on attempted kidnapping charges an hour later in a nearby town, ABC News reported.

“I didn’t bother nobody, I was never there,” he told reporters after his arrest.

Police said Woods was released from state prison in October after serving four years for a 2004 conviction for voluntary manslaughter.
