A 60- to 70-foot Boat Catches On Fire Near The Shelter Island Launch Ramp

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The San Diego Fire Department responded to a call at 4:45 p.m. Sunday to a boat on fire docked off Point Loma.Lifeguards used fire boats to assist firefighters in dousing the one-alarm fire that began in the boat’s engine room.The passengers on the vessel were transported to a Coast Guard boat while the fire was contained.A dispatcher from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said the fire caused more than $100,000 in damage to the boat and possessions in it.The blaze was knocked down within 20 minutes; no injuries were reported.
