OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Three malnourished sea lion pups were rescued in Oceanside on Sunday morning.

Oceanside police officers found two pups on the rocks of the North Jetty at Oceanside Harbor in the 1400 block of North Pacific Street at about 9:15 a.m., while lifeguards found another pup needing help at Buccaneer Beach in South Oceanside.

The three sea lions were brought to lifeguard headquarters at the Oceanside Pier.

The sea lions appeared to be malnourished, lifeguards told 10News. A SeaWorld rescue crew was called in to come pick up the pups.

Lifeguards told 10News they are seeing more sea lions in distress more frequently. They say food is more scarce for sea lions, which may be why they are finding more of them malnourished along county beaches.
