SAN DIEGO - Three men are in custody Wednesday evening after leading San Diego police on a pursuit that ended in the Mount Hope area.
Police say the chase started on 39th and C. An officer took over a case related to a group of taggers last week and on Wednesday, the officer recognized the taggers' truck and tried to pull it over, but the truck sped away.
"As the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed onto the southbound 805 freeway," said San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison. "The vehicle exited at Palm Avenue and rode through surface streets of San Diego and National City before coming back northbound on the 805 and then eastbound on the 94. Our helicopter was overhead calling the pursuit along with additional ground units moving in. One of our patrol units was able to get ahead of the pursuit and deploy spike strips which disabled the vehicle."
The pursuit ended just before 10 p.m. on eastbound state Route 94 near Federal Boulevard.
Three men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of tagging and felony evading officers. One of them had a no-bail felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon.
