Jim Duc Nguyen -- who's being held without bail -- faces 107 years to life in prison if convicted of two murder counts and knife allegations in the deaths Christopher Manzon and Ador Laus.

Nguyen, 24, pleaded not guilty to the charges and had his preliminary hearing set for Aug. 13.

Deputy District Attorney Chris Moon said a group of people were outside the Friars Road restaurant about 12:25 a.m. June 2 where some were drinking alcohol.

The restaurant manager asked a partygoer, Laus, to ask the group to come back in, and Nguyen took offense, according to Moon, who alleged that an argument ensued and Nguyen fatally stabbed the 25-year-old Manzon.

Laus chased Nguyen and caught him. During that fight, Laus, 23, also was stabbed, and died a week later.
