ABC10, and our sister station Azteca San Diego 15, proudly provide annual support to Autism Speaks by sponsoring their Annual Walk Now for Autism Speaks in San Diego. 10News and Azteca San Diego 15 anchors, reporters, and staff volunteer their time to participate in the Walk. We air a campaign with our anchors on both television stations inviting the public to participate in the Walk. The campaign also helps to raise awareness of Autism Speaks. This 5K Walk is a fun-filled, family friendly event, and an opportunity for San Diegans to support people with autism. The Walk raises awareness and funds to support autism research and a cure. Autism Speaks was founded in 2005 by Bob & Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their longtime friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to help financially launch the organization. Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the nation’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of the autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
