Police Search For Girl After Abduction Caught On Tape

$25,000 Reward Offered

A Florida family is pleading for a suspected kidnapper to bring a missing 11-year-old girl home.

Police say Carlie Brucia's abduction was caught by a surveillance camera at a car wash in Sarasota Monday.

Standing near that same spot Tuesday, her father said there were other people in the area -- and he is pleading with them to try to remember any details from that time.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's office said a surveillance camera behind a car wash caught sixth-grader Carlie Brucia being led away Sunday evening by a white male in his late 20s or early 30s. Carlie Brucia

She was walking home from a friend's house, and the abduction was caught by an automatic camera.

Sgt. Paul Richard said the business was closed, and Carlie was walking past as a short cut home.

The video caught the man walking up to the girl, talking to her for a few seconds, then grabbing her forearm and leading her away.

Richard says Carlie didn't seem to know the man, who was wearing what appeared to be a mechanic's shirt with a name patch.

Officers began searching for the 11-year-old Sunday evening -- but didn't receive the video camera's record until Monday afternoon.

"We fear for her safety. On behalf of Carlie's family, I'd like to make a plea to the man who took her away or to anyone who knows of her whereabouts. Please bring Carlie home. Carlie if you can see or hear this, please know that we will stop at nothing to find you," Maj. Kevin Gooding of the Sarasota County Sheriff's office said. "And most of all, Carlie, do not give up."

"We are assuming that anything could have happened at this point. We have to assume it's the worst case scenario, that she could be traveling out of this area," Gooding said.

Carlie, who is about 5 feet tall and 120 pounds, has blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a red top and blue jeans, and carrying a pink backpack.

"We have received in excess of 100 calls," Gooding said. "Most of those leads are general in nature."

There was one specific lead Gooding discussed. He said officials received information from the Kissimmee Police Department that there was an incident reported where a man was allegedly walking at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday morning in an area and he "seized" a car.

The witness said a man and a female were struggling near the car and that the female fit Carlie's description.

"They struggled and the female ran away from the male. The male tried to grab her to bring her back," Gooding said.

The witness wasn't sure of what he saw, but he then went home and saw the Amber Alert on TV and realized that struggle could be related to the Amber Alert.

The FBI is working with Sarasota officials on the case.

"We have agents working all of the leads that are generated here so that we can thoroughly and aggressively follow up on these leads," Carl Whitehead, of the FBI, said.

Whitehead said profilers are working on the case.

A business was offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for her disappearance.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, family members spoke to the media.

"Carlie, if you can her this, your mom is at home. She's waiting for you to come home. She loves you and she wants you to come home," a family spokeswoman said.

"To whoever has her, please let her go. She's an 11-year-old girl and she should not have been taken," the spokeswoman said. "She's a child and she needs to be with her family."

"If anybody knows anything, everything is crucial at this point. Time is going by and her mom is waiting for her daughter to get home," she said.

The girl's mother is said to be so distraught that she can barely move from the couch in their home. Earlier, Carlie's mother said, "She's loving. She's caring. She's silly. She's sweet. And she needs to come home."
