"My cupboards are bare. I don't have anything to cook," striker Heddie Klein said.

It's an extremely tough week for many of the strikers. The grocery workers will lose two-thirds of their strike pay the day after Christmas and will lose their health benefits at the end of the month.

Pat Salzarillo is a union representative for grocery workers and said while it is a joy to give, the reality of why the families are in need is sobering.

"They want to work. They are good people. It just hurts to know the companies let them out on the streets at this time," Salzarillo said.

Along with the food donations, toys were given to children. The Labor Council also adopted 100 of the neediest families in the grocery strike.

"It's really neat because my kids understand they're not going to get the toys they usually get, but they got to meet the family that's going to have a Christmas so it really puts a meaning in what are we are supposed to be doing," said Jerry Burkiewicz of the Labor Council.

Other unions have adopted specific grocery store locations to take care of strikers and their families.
